ISABELLA GARAFFA
Isabella Garaffa's latest creation, "My Favorite Memory; On Our Way to Pine Creek Cookhouse", captures the very essence of her deep connection to the natural beauty of the Rockies—a place she is privileged to call home. This piece, which marks the first painting of 2025, is not only a beautiful portrayal of the landscape, but also an intimate exploration of the artist’s personal memory of winter, love, and peace in the wilderness.
In her own words, Isabella describes the journey to Pine Creek Cookhouse as a ritual of celebration, shared annually with her husband on her birthday. The scene depicted in this painting takes place at golden hour, when the mountains surrounding the valley come alive in breathtaking light. The setting sun bathes the peaks in a soft glow as Isabella and her husband make their way on cross-country skis through the iconic Aspen groves. The sensation of being enveloped by the untouched snow, with all worries and daily distractions silenced, is embodied in every brushstroke of this artwork. It is a rare and powerful moment of connection to both nature and the self—a dreamlike escape that Isabella hopes to share through this piece.
Isabella’s work has a way of captivating the viewer and sparking an immediate connection.

“My first painting of 2025. And I must say, I love this one. It’s obviously a great combination between the facts that this place harbors my best memories of winter, and the fact that the scenery of these mountains the lead to #pearlpass is also one of my favorites. Once a year, around my birthday which is in mid March, the husband of my life takes me there to celebrate. And everything about it is just perfect; we get to see the mountains in the back illuminated by those beautiful rays of light of golden hour, as we make our way there on cross country skis traveling through the Aspen groves. Every time I do it, I feel that I am on another planet. All worries disappear. All the voices of everyday life get silenced. And all I can think about is how blessed I am to call this little piece of the #rockymountains my home. Sometimes I have to pinch myself to realize I’m not dreaming! Because it really really feels like a dream. And then, as you approach this cute and cozy little cabin in the middle of nowhere to have an incredible meal, it is the cherry on top! It is a one of a kind experience. It’s worth every penny 😅 . It’s been many years that I have been wanting to paint this, I cannot feel more accomplished that I chose to do it as the first painting of this year. I only wish everyone could see it in person because no matter how hard I tried, you can’t see it all through these photographs. This is one of those paintings that you have to experience in person."

The painting’s rich layers of color and texture invite the viewer to experience the landscape not just through sight, but through memory, emotion, and a sense of belonging. The distant mountains, bathed in golden light, beckon the viewer into the scene, while the intricacies of the Aspen trees—drenched in the tranquil quiet of winter—create a sense of intimacy and serenity. As with much of Isabella’s work, there is a sense of both realism and suggestion. She doesn’t paint the landscape in strict detail, but rather invites us to experience it as she feels it—a place of both breathtaking beauty and profound peace.
This work is not just a depiction of a physical place but a visual journal entry, capturing the artist’s personal pilgrimage through the snow-covered wilderness to a quiet, remote cabin where she and her husband enjoy a peaceful meal. Isabella has spent years wanting to paint this memory, and to have it be the first piece she creates in 2025 is a testament to the significance it holds for her. She reflects on how, in these quiet moments, it feels as though she’s stepped into another world—a dream that, to her, is as real as the mountains themselves.
Isabella’s style has always been characterized by her ability to convey the raw, ethereal energy of the natural world, and this painting is no exception. The ethereal quality of the light and the dreamlike serenity of the scene speak not only to the artist's connection to the landscape but to her belief that every experience—no matter how challenging or serene—is part of a divine, larger design.
My Favorite Memory is a visual invitation to pause and take a breath—to experience a moment that resonates deeply within the soul. It’s a piece that asks us not just to look, but to feel, to experience, and to remember what it is to be fully present in the wild beauty of nature.
“Dressed In Snow” is best experienced in person, where the true richness of its colors and textures come to life. This is a must-see work when visiting Aspen, a reminder to slow down and savor the enchanting moments that are all around us, just waiting to be noticed.

" I took the original photo for this painting back in 2019, with an old iPhone 11.1 only had one shot of the view. But as I was scrolling through my photo album choosing my next painting, when I came across this I knew right away I had to paint it. I had to. So here it is.
You know what is one of my favorite things when I go out there to explore? Seeing the sign that lets me know I'm in a national forest area. It gives me comfort knowing that all the beauty I'm about to see will be protected for ages to come, and no human development will destroy it. That's a wonderful thing. Leave it the way you found it, right? I think this painting it's an expression of gratitude from my heart for all the forest rangers that take care of all these enchanted areas that we so profoundly cherish. And as always, this is an expression of absolute amazement at the immense creativity of the Creator of us all.
Cheers!"

"I woke up that Monday morning in winter wonderland. I love these end of October snowstorms we get every year. They are mixed with leftovers; from seasons past and the new season coming. I went knee deep onto a hike to capture the beauty of that day so I could paint it, and when I came across this scene I knew this was it. I was so happy in that place. And all I hope is that when you look at it, you can feel the bliss of that moment with me!"
