Michel Mirabal has a, self confessed, obsession with the USA. Sometimes, an outsider looking in, can give fresh perspective. ..empowered with the most pure of Purpose

His use of Materials are world renowned and unlike anything you have ever seen.

Most recently, MICHEL was in the U.S. for his Grammy nominated album cover as well as a get together with his Roc Nation brothers. When he came to Aspen, he immediately captured the spotlight. MICHEL MIRABAL truly is an artist in full flight.

In honor of his deep connection to America - today we reflect on this connection to our country and its presidents past and present

“President's Day, formally known as Washington's Birthday, is a federal holiday observed in the United States on the third Monday of February. It is a day that celebrate all U.S. presidents (past and present) specifically George Washington (born on February 22), the first President of the United States…..The shift from Washington's Birthday to Presidents' Day began in the late 1960s when Congress proposed a measure known as the Uniform Monday Holiday Act. This law sought to shift the celebration of several federal holidays from specific dates to a series of predetermined Mondays.”

"this work is one of the most special since it was cast in the context of the new relationships and how they changed for the worse. The event makes it more significant since it marks a historical moment….so It is one of the most important works of my collection. a hug.”  MICHEL MIRABAL in reference to Yesterday and Today

We agree Michel, one of the most important Artworks we will ever have in the Gallery......

What makes this particular work so special?

Michel+Mirabal+Aspen+Art+gallery (1).jpeg

The moment in history that inspired it's creation….(see Below) the two unimaginable days when Obama met with the new Castro leadership in Cuba 'Yesterday and Today' (see below) and Obama inspired the work below ‘My New Friend'.

The hopefulness and sense of possibility it celebrates....Michel explained to me just how unprecedented it was to have the Stars and Stripes flying and even pictures of the President of the USA flying in Havana at this time. Hence the openings in the flag, the splashes and the breaking of the barriers in this particular piece unlike any of the others...

its authenticity…the first MIRABAL we ever had...created in the truest, original local materials, methodology and location. Solely crafted by MIRABAL himself in his birth place, his home.

Michel Mirabal loves his country of Cuba... And he loves the United States. He is fascinated by nations, this human construction that overcome so much and lasts through History.
