Her unique ability to continually astound, sets SUSAN MAKARA apart. A courageous departure from her previous work, 'Land Escape' (36x48) is an abstract that showcases all of the incredible reflective qualities and 3 dimensional effects that made her 'Rock Series' so successful... plus gives Susan a new dimension to her practice.
“Drawing from my Cairn Series I abstracted rock, wind, and water to create ‘Land Escape’. As the painting progressed I imagined an atmospheric landscape; prehistoric paintings on a cave wall; and tidal waves washing over beautiful mountains.
I added elements to the acrylic paints and molding pastes to produce an effect of shimmering reflected light. The gold and variegated metallic leaf beneath the textured surface gives the illusion of a glow from within the painting.
